The last of our current denominations made it's appearance in 1866. The nickel five cent coin was introduced shortly after the end of the Civil War to help retire the fractional currency notes which had circulated widely during the War. The Philadelphia Half Dime and Dime are both scarce, low mintage issues. The motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse of the larger silver coins (Quarter, Half and Dollar) though a few "No Motto" Halves were made in San Francisco and are the key to this set.
