The St. Patrick’s coins were actually struck in Dublin, Ireland, but were brought to America by Mark Newby, their maker. Desperate as they were for coinage of any kind, the colonial New Jersey legislature made the coins legal tender. This Major Variety set includes the two denominations (Farthing and Halfpenny) plus some interesting varieties in the Farthing denomination. The silver version is particularly interesting and may have been intended for an additional denomination. Occasionally, the copper pieces will have a brass plug or splasher in the area of the hovering crown, imparting a golden color that contrasts with the brown of the rest of the coin. This set is easy to complete because only the silver piece is expensive. However, high grade examples are rare, so expect to spend some time, money, and effort on upgrading.

Notes: This set has bonuses. Please see the Set Composition for a listing.
