1874 Proof Set with Gold

The Proof Set for 1874 shrunk considerably from the previous year, losing the Two Cent Piece, Three Cent Silver (both Proof-only strikes this year), the Half Dime and the Seated Dollar. Arrows continued to appear at the date on most of the silver coins. As a result of these being two-year type coins, some extra value premium accrues to both the 1873 and 1874 With Arrows Dimes, Quarters and Halves. The minor base metal coins are all common dates for their respective types.. The Gold proofs for 1874 are all extremely rare. Twenty pieces of each were struck, of which perhaps half have survived. As one would expect, auction appearances are few and far between, and both patience and money would be required to undertake this set.
