The Coinage Act of 1792 specified two copper coins, five silver coins and three gold coins. The smallest of the silver coins was the half dime, which was first struck in 1792, prior to the opening of the mint in Philadelphia. It is of course this coin that will prove by far the most difficult to acquire as decent specimens run into the mid-five figures. The other challenges will be the three following coins, the Flowing Hair, and the two Draped Bust designs. The small eagle Draped Bust coin in particular is very tough to locate in a pleasing high circulated or uncirculated grade. Both circulation strikes and Proofs are permitted in this set.
