1885 Mint Set with Gold

The Mint Set for 1885 is dominated by two coins, both of which are rather high value regardless of grade. The 1885 Liberty Nickel is the toughest coin in the series, and commands a healthy price even in Good. The 1885-CC dollar is low mintage, and while very scarce in circulated grades, is only marginally more costly in Mint State Grades as most all were released by the Treasury in the 1960s and 1970s. The Quarter and Half of course are both low mintage, and infrequently seen. The Three Cent Nickel piece is also tough. With a mintage of only 1000 pieces, it's not cheap even in Good condition. The gold is is lead by the incredibly scarce 1885 Double Eagle. With a scant mintage of only 751 pieces, it is easier to find a Proof than a Mint State piece. The 1885-CC $20 is not an easy coin either, especially in high grade. The smaller denomination gold coins are also elusive this year, due to tiny mintages. Only 800 Quarter Eagles were struck and only 801 $3's were made. While not horrendously expensive, they may take some time to locate.
