Morgan Dollars Complete Variety Set and Branch Mints, Proof (1878-1921)

Calling any Proof Morgan Dollar "common" is a bit of a misnomer, as original mintages for nearly all dates between 1878 and 1904 lay between 600 and 1200 pieces. With survival rates of between 25% and 50%, that leaves most of these with between 100 and 500 pieces known today. And those are for the common dates. The branch mint proofs; 1879-O, 1883-O, 1893-CC and the 1921-S Zerbe Proofs are far rarer, with fewer than half a dozen pieces known of each. While nearly all the VAM varieties are Circulation Strikes, there are a couple of 1878 8TF Proofs that have earned a spot in the VAM book. While they're not quite as tough as the Branch Mint Proofs, they certainly add to the challenge.
