Early $5 Gold Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1795-1838)

Only three of them are known and two of those are in the Smithsonian Institution National Collection. The third piece, from the Eliasberg collection, has yet to be graded by PCGS. When it comes to the proof issues, these early $5 gold pieces are so rare that PCGS has certified only six specimens since 1986 (as this is being written).
