After the initial year of the 90% silver proofs, proof coins were eliminated from the Mint offering for the next three years. When the proofs were re-introduced in 1968 they were composed of a silver clad composition. In 1971 the silver was eliminated, then returned for the bicentennial, then removed again before reappearing in 1992. This has become a long and somewhat complex set, but it’s highly collected by a nation that remembers this popular President.
