- 41.2 mm. 562.6 grains. Plain edge. Same obverse as Ford XIII:692. An elusive Betts number, represented by three different examples from three different obverse dies in the Ford sale but utterly absent from our offerings since then, a period of more than 18 years. The rosy effects of an old cleaning have mellowed somewhat on the obverse, while the reverse is mostly dark olive and navy blue with the same rose highlights around design elements. The presence of hairlines is somewhat plain on the obverse under a glass but are a bit more subtle on the reverse. Both sides are well detailed, with the central relief fully struck by two visible strikes. Though Ford had three from three obverses and Adams had two (one from this obverse die, another from one not included in Ford), no other specimens have appeared at auction in over a decade - and none of the Ford or Adams pieces have reappeared since those sales in 2006 and 2013, respectively.
