- Ex Gerald R. Forsythe Collection, as noted on the insert. WOW! This is the SINGLE FINEST graded 1883/2 overdate at PCGS. What a great coin to cap off any WORLD CLASS set of Mint State Shield nickels! The variety is very scarce in all grades, with any Mint State example being tough to find (and are usually in the MS62-MS64 range). While the mint had a number of left over dies dated 1882 that were repurposed and repunched with the 3 over the 2, the FS-301 offered is the most desirable and highly coveted among specialist collectors. The overdate feature is clear and visible to the naked eye. The surfaces radiate with a rich frosty luster that blooms below a delicate dusting of antique gold and pewter patina. Sharply struck, this borderline SUPERB GEM has strong definition and exceptional eye appeal. PCGS 4, NGC 2, CAC 3. This is the SOLE MS66+ and it sold in the 2019 ANA auction for $60,000!
