TIED FOR FINEST NGC-GRADED 1908-D five! What an incredibly well preserved example. While not rare in an overall sense, despite a mintage of only 148,000, enough of these have been repatriated from overseas holdings over the years that the date is available in grades up to MS64. GEM examples, like Gem examples of every date in this challenging series, are EXTREMELY RARE.
Honey-gold with soft rose overtones give this GEM a fabulous look. The incuse devices are expertly struck and show precision details throughout the Indian's headdress and eagle's feathers. A stray tick or two are found with effort and a powerful loupe, but these do not distract. The eye appeal is wonderful.
PCGS 12, NGC 6. With only six graded in this lofty state of preservation at NGC and NONE FINER, your choices for a top ranking set are few and far between, so this is an opportunity NOT to be missed. This is NOT the coin that brought $21,000 nearly three years ago in November 2020, which was the ONLY NGC-graded example to sell in auction. We suspect that this coin will bring a higher price in today's market. Good luck.
