- 1917 United States Assay Commission Medal. Bronze. 45 mm. By George T. Morgan. JK AC-61a. Rarity-6. Specimen-62 (PCGS). Handsome deep golden-copper patina blankets both sides of this overall smooth, seemingly undergraded example. The 1917 Assay Commission medal represent the third and final use of the obverse die United States Treasury Seal in this series. The reverse is the same as that of the 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913 and 1916 issues, albeit with the date changed to 1917. The JK AC-61 is a scarce issue with an unknown mintage; it appears to come only in bronze format, as here. Provenance: From the Richard Jewell Collection.
