- NETHERLANDS. Augsburg Confession Bicentennial Silver Medal, 1730. PCGS SPECIMEN-58 Gold Shield. 62mm; 81.90 gms. Whiting-354; van Loon-54. By M. Holtzhey. Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession in Amsterdam. Obverse: Bust of Martin Luther right; around, shields and names of five Protestant princes and the cities of Nuremberg and Reutlingen, all connected by a chain; Reverse: Personification of Religion seated with Bible on lap; Veritas standing to left, pointing to Minerva in the background who is fighting a dragon; pyramid with "CC" being inscribed ("200" [years]) to right. An attractive, large medal, with deep gray toning and highlights of cobalt throughout. Impressive and highly lustrous. Estimate: $1,800 - $2,400. Provenance: Ex: Bowers & Merena (6/1990) Lot # 5410.
