- THE B.S.T. COLLECTION A stunning example of the Draped Bust Large Eagle type. VERY RARE so well preserved, this one ranks among the top baker's dozen certified by PCGS with the Pointed 6, Stems Red Book classification (of which there are over a dozen pairings that make up this Red Book variant). The O-115 is a Rarity-1 die marriage, common in an absolute sense, scarce in any Mint State grade, and this one is the FINEST in the Herrman listing. Incredibly lustrous, the obverse boasts a thick, rich patina of slate, slivery-blue, and light gold. The colors are well balanced and brought to life by the underlying luster. The devices are razor sharp in strike, unusual for the date, which often shows bluntness of detail in the central portions of the design elements. The surfaces are sleek, clean, and free of any distractions of any kind. Clearly this coin was carefully stored and cared for since it was struck, and the benign neglect in an old envelope imparted the wonderful antique patina that is a delight to behold! Ex Alto III, Superior, May 2005, lot 3516 (as NGC MS65); Heritage, April 2015, lot 5073; our consignor, via Legend Numismatics. PCGS 7, NGC 2, CAC 5. The most recent example sold in January 2021 for $93,500; the current PCGS Price Guide value is $110,000 and the CAC CPG value is $115,200. EXTREMELY RARE any finer: a PCGS MS65+ last sold eight years ago; in the 2023 FUN auction the Garrett-Pryor-O'Neil MS66 sold for $204,000! Regardless of your collecting interests, this GEM will entice your strong bidding. Whether putting together a sensational early half dollar set, an AMAZING type set, or just assembling a box of 20 uber cool and sexy coins, this 1806 half dollar will fit the bill every time! Good luck. Cert. Number 28790667 PCGS # 6071
