- Exceedingly Rare Limoges Mint Half Sou Marque 1740-I Half Sou Marque. Limoges Mint. Vlack-303. Rarity-8. EF-45 (PCGS). 15.4 grains. The obverse is a remarkable bright silver in color while the reverse is a more subdued dove-gray. The is some light surface roughness on the former side. The reverse die was severely failing when it struck this coin with several prominent breaks evident. Nearly full silvering with impressively sharp detail throughout. Limoges struck this denomination only in 1739 and 1740, and both issues are extremely rare. Provenance: From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) sale of the Robert A.
