The surfaces possess considerable mint flash and color, with the expected moderate fading as these copper-nickel planchets will do over time. Free of all but a trace of carbon, and the strike is full and complete throughout. This is the Snow-9 variety with the faint dies line to the U and I of UNITED while the reverse has a minute center dot tucked under the left serif of the N in CENT. No striking softness as the wing and breast feathers are all fully defined. A simply outstanding example that has been off the market for a number of years, in fact our consignor has had this exact coin in his family since his great-great grandfather obtained it reportedly as a gift around the time of issue in Connecticut. Over the generations it was passed down through the same family until finally coming to auction today. An exciting and high quality offering of this classic rarity with an historic past.
