This is a handsome coin, with both sides warmly and evenly toned in smoky pewter gray. Generally smooth with no sizeable marks from circulation, and no detracting adjustment marks. All design elements are boldly outlined with appreciable sharpness remaining in some of the recesses.<p>The first quarter dollar produced in the United States Mint since 1796, and the first issue in the Heraldic Eagle portion of the Draped Bust series, the 1804 is also a key date coin with a mintage of just 6,738 pieces. Browning-1, offered here, is the more frequently encountered of the known die marriages. It is readily attributable by the presence of a die scratch (as made) on the obverse in between stars 8 and 9.
