The 1884-S is the very definition of a condition rarity. Common in circulated grades, the vast majority of the 3.2 million piece mintage went right into circulation and there they remained. Mint State survivors are incredibly RARE and are extremely so any finer than the CHOICE piece seen here. A strong, satiny luster glows boldly with swirling cartwheels on both sides. While mostly untoned, there is a misty hint of the clearest gold that affirms this CHOICE BU's originality. Sharply struck, this coin has wonderful definition on both sides. Some minor contact can be seen, but the eye appeal is excellent, and approaches the look of an even higher grade. Very high end and PQ, if you are still looking to fill this hole in your set, look no further. PCGS 52, NGC 48, CAC 8. The last one sold very cheaply in our opinion, realizing $36,000 and $39,600 in January 2020 and September 2019 respectively (same coin). The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $50,000 and there are just 20 graded finer. Keep in mind that a 63+ with CAC approval has sold for more than $70,000; MS64s are six figure coins! This very high end example will sell for a very strong bid and will end up in a fabulous collection of Morgan dollars! Cert. Number 39848547 PCGS # 7156.00
