- The 1871-CC is the second of only four Liberty Seated dollar issues struck at the Carson City Mint and, with just 1,376 pieces produced, it has the lowest mintage in this highly select group. While the final year 1873-CC is rarer, the 1871-CC is certainly rare in its own right. Carson City Mint expert Rusty Goe (2020) provides an estimate of 105 to 135 coins extant, just 42 to 55 of which are in EF and AU grades. With most survivors obviously well worn, and only a handful in Mint State, this EF would serve as a highlight in any numismatic cabinet. It offers generally brilliant, bright silver surfaces with subtle golden-tan highlights engaging the borders. Appreciable frosty luster remains, the fields revealing subtle reflective qualities as the coin rotates under a light. Wispy hairlines and a touch of glossiness to the texture are noted for accuracy, but there are no sizeable handling marks. Boldly defined throughout.
