Lot 351 1853 N-9 R2- Repunched Date PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved.Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with about 10% of the planchet showing mint red, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the only marks are a couple of small spots of fine carbon on the reverse, the largest one nestled between the leaf and berry below the first S in STATES. M-LDS, die state b late. The repunching on the 8 is gone but it remains visible on the other 3 digits, clearest on the 1 & 5. The earlier die lines at the inner and main curls are gone. Our grade is MS62, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 1 finer in 65+.
