- THE B.S.T. COLLECTION Though not mentioned on the PCGS holder, this is the ever popular LIBEKTY Red Book variety, listed as LM-3. A Rarity-4 variety that was created when the die sinker used an R punch that was broken at the top loop, making it look like a K. A PREMIUM GEM example, this piece ranks among the FINEST 1800 half dimes extant. We absolutely love this beautifully toned GEM that is extremely high end for the grade. Nearly fully struck, with razor sharp definition in most places, there is just a touch of weakness on the eagle's right wing and the right most clouds above the wing. A bold, satiny mint luster rolls unimpeded on both sides, which is especially vivid towards the peripheries. A touch of gold and emerald at the rims blends to an even cobalt and teal patina that is deep, but becomes quite vivacious when rotated in a light. Light clash marks are seen with the aid of a powerful glass as are a few tiny stray ticks noted for the sake of full disclosure, but are irrelevant in terms of the technical and aesthetic quality, which this one possesses in spades! Truly a gorgeous example! For PCGS # 4264 the Population data is: PCGS 4, NGC 7, CAC 1. This is the ONLY MS65+. The LIBEKTY variety is assigned PCGS # 4265 and is PCGS 3, NGC 0, CAC 3 with 2 in MS65+. Between the two major varieties, just three are graded higher. The PCGS Price Guide value is $75,000. The last LIBEKTY in MS65+ sold seven years ago for $45,825 and a PCGS MS66 CAC sold for $111,625 in August 2015. This is a real prize for the early type or half dime specialist and will see very strong bidding when it crosses the block. Worthy of the FINEST cabinet and will see very strong bidding when it crosses the block. Cert. Number 4182977 PCGS # 4264
