- THE TERRA PISTACIA COLLECTION Ex Eliasberg Collection What an impressive Assay Office $20! A gorgeous Mint State example that borders on the CHOICE Mint State classification. This Kagin-18 variation with the fineness noted as 900 THOUS on the ribbon, is one of the most common of all Territorial gold coins, with about 2.5 million examples struck between March and October 1853. Many were likely returned to the mint in 1854 or later and recoined into Liberty Head double eagles. Survivors in such fine quality are scarce and are rare any finer. This is a very sharply struck example with crisp detail throughout on both sides. A strong mint luster glows on the wonderful orange-gold surfaces, accenting hints of rose, peach, and champagne patina. Only using a strong glass do you see any trace of surface disturbance, nothing visible to the naked eye, nor pose as a distraction to the high end eye appeal. This is a wonderful and totally original example, not what you typically see for the issue. Possibly ex. Chapman Brothers in May 1897 to J.M. Clapp; Clapp Estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr, via Stack's in 1942; Louis E. Eliasberg Collection, May 1996, lot 349. PCGS 37, NGC 2, CAC 5. No PCGS/CAC example in this grade has ever sold in auction. The current CAC CPG value is $18,000 and the PCGS Price Guide value is $19,500. We like the look of this coin better than the PCGS MS63 CAC example that sold in August 2022, and you can't beat the freshness or pedigree! Good luck. Cert. Number 4491613 PCGS # 10013
