- CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). Piedfort Pattern 10 Tael (Liang) Mule, ND (ca. 1899-1900). PCGS SP Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder. cf.KM-Pn4; CCC-Unlisted; K-pg. 331-32; Duan-Unlisted; CL-Unlisted. Struck in copper with reeded edge using two reverse dies on a double thick planchet. EXTREMELY RARE. Proposed design for a Tael series based on the gold standard. Well struck with wear consistent for the grade. Nicks, hit marks, edge bruises and light old scratches account for the details designation. Deeply toned and attractive despite the noted defects.
