- Incredible quality and totally original! This high grade example ranks high on the PCGS Population Report and is clearly one of the FINEST pieces known to exist. Impressively preserved, nearly flawless mirrors beam with a bold reflection and inspiring clarity. The surfaces are clean and the mirrors are crystal clear. A totally original and warm patina, showing off as a rich peach-apricot-rose with splashes of blue, crimson, and gold cover both sides in a lovely dappled pattern. While deep, the colors do not impede the freshness or brilliance of the flashy mirrors. The devices are crisply and fully struck up with a thick frost that provides an awesome amount of CAMEO contrast on both sides. The eye appeal is truly WILD and we love the look of this stone bold original GEM that borders on the SUPERB category. Walter Breen notes that Don Taxay discovered this overdate variety in 1962. According to Ron Guth (writing for PCGS CoinFacts), the overdate is only available in the Proof format. The reverse die was cracked, suggesting that this issue is a restrike issue, created after the 1864 Proofs, but before some of the business strikes, which was only possible during the summer of 1864. Fewer than 460 were struck. PCGS 4, NGC 0. The only ones to have sold were CAC approved, and the average APR is $35,000; the most recent selling for $19,200 but there are records that are close to $50,000! The current Collectors Universe value is $36,500. Needless to say this RARE overdate is difficult to find any finer with just four graded higher. Cert. Number 39837733 PCGS # 83713
