EX BATTLE CREEK COLLECTION as noted on the holder
BAHAMA BLUE SEAS AND COTTON CANDY, that's what this gorgeous coin makes me think of as I gaze at the lovely color combinations bursting across satiny, highly lustrous reverse fields. At the periphery and accented around the design details bright Barbie pink highlights are offset by fathomless sea blue fields and devices. Must be seen to be appreciated. Truly magnificent. Additionally, the quality is spectacular with immaculate fields on the toned side. The obverse is satiny white with just a couple faint breaks in the luster keeping it from an MS67 (no guarantees).
The Battle Creek Collection was housed in ten $1,000 sewn mint bags with original Philadelphia Mint tags and seals dated 1885, 1886 and 1887. Two each of the first two dates and six bags dated 1887. The bags resided with the collector until the time of his death. The coins were bought "blind", meaning no one saw the quality of the pieces until after the purchase. Who knew that such immense beauty and color would await the winning bidder! The collection was purchased by Dennis Steinmetz of Steinmetz Coin and Currency. The chances of obtaining a collection of beautifully toned dollars were scant at best.
