- A spectacular example. The surfaces are distinctive and show significant reflectivity, as well as die finishing lines in the fields that are most pronounced on the reverse between the top of the seated figure's head and the letter A in HIBERNIA. Beautiful appearance on both sides with a fully detailed strike, far sharper than normally seen, even among the usually soft fine details of the central reverse. Outside of direct lightning, the patina appears to be chiefly autumn-brown with a mottling of warm olive, but a light reveals strong luster and pastel highlights of iridescent pink, lilac, and blue. This is an exceptional type coin, especially for those who appreciate seeing every fine design element fully struck up. Although not originally intended for circulation in the American colonies like his Rosa Americana coinage, many of Wood's Hibernia coppers found their way across the Atlantic after being rejected in Ireland. As such, the series has long been viewed as an integral part of the early American coinage family. We are pleased to present this 1723 farthing for the consideration of advanced collectors. It is a fabulous Gem, worthy of the strongest bids.
