- Proof quarter coinage during the early Washington series continued to ratchet up in 1941, when the Mint struck 21,625 pieces. The productivity rate was only 70.6%, however, with 15,287 pieces actually delivered to the coiner. Eighty seven of those were destroyed through assay, leaving an actual distribution of 15,200, of which Roger Burdette accounts for approximately 7,600 survivors in his excellent reference <em>United States Proof Coins: 1936-1942</em> (2016). With most extant examples marred by flyspecks, slightly dulled by orange or yellowish toning and/or showing signs of mishandling, this brilliant Ultra Gem is an extraordinary condition rarity that will please even the most discerning numismatist.
