- FROM THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLARS This GEM is among the FINEST KNOWN O-102, which, contrary to the notation on the PCGS insert, is a Large 9 Red Book variety, not a Small 9. The 5th edition of Overton lists the Condition Census for this variety as 66,66,65,65,65 and the listing in the AMBPR supports this. As the calendar rolled from 1818 to 1819, five obverse dies left over from the previous year were repunched with a 9 over the second 8, creating six distinct overdate varieties, the most for any single year in this series that is full of overdates. This is an incredibly beautiful GEM! Everything about it is very high end! Both obverse and reverse (especially) are boldly and vibrantly toned with an expressive and dappled blend of coppery-gold, deep brick red, purple, and azure hues. Rotating the frosty lustrous surfaces in a light, the subtle nuances of the toning pattern and polychromatic palette burst to life imparting a visual allure rarely encountered on this type. Exacting definition from a precision blow from the dies rendered every detail crisply and to the fullest, again, a feature that makes this coin all the more eye appealing! Ex. Heritage, 2009 ANA Auction, August 2009, lot 1116; Stack's 74th Anniversary Sale, November 2009, lot 1390. The PCGS # listed on the insert corresponds to the incorrect Small 9 variety. its proper PCGS # is 6119. PCGS 5, NGC 3, CAC 2. Off the market for well over a decade, the old APRs are irrelevant. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $31,200 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $32,500. Non-CAC PCGS-graded examples have sold for as much as $32,900 in our Regency Auctions. Bid accordingly. Cert. Number 6700595 PCGS # 6118
