- One of the scarcest and most pleasing designs among the Classic Commemoratives, the Hawaiian half is coveted by collectors. The mintage was on the lower side among commems, with just 9,958 struck. This one ranks among the top three dozen graded by PCGS, bested by just eight pieces. The present borderline SUPERB GEM is awash in totally original pastel colors on both sides. The obverse has a sky blue patina melding into rich gold, and then ending in a narrow band of rainbow toning at the lower periphery. The reverse has a dusting of the faintest powder blue and soft lilac overtones. The colors are brought to life by an intense, satiny mint frost on nearly pristine surfaces. The strike is crisp and bold throughout adding to the outstanding eye appeal of this borderline SUPERB GEM. PCGS 162, NGC 79, CAC 48. There are 26 in MS66+ and just eight finer. The most recent example sold in April 2021 for $11,400 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $11,500. There are four each in MS67 and MS67+ finer at PCGS, the most recent MS67 sold for $96,000 in August 2022. This marvelous GEM seems like a great value and worthy of a strong bid. Cert. Number 40579893 PCGS # 9309
