- 1855 Pattern Flying Eagle Cent. Judd-168 Original, Pollock-193. Rarity-4. Proof-66 RB (NGC). 91.4 grains. An eagle flies to the left on the obverse with 13 stars around the periphery and the date 1855 below. On the reverse we see the denomination ONE CENT encircled by a laurel wreath. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border. Struck in bronze (the specific alloy is 91% copper, 8% tin, 1% zinc as listed on the NGC insert) with a plain edge.<br /> Tied for finest certified for the type, this beautiful Gem exhibits only light glossy-brown tinting to mostly bright-orange surfaces. The toning is largely confined to the reverse, and both sides are fully struck with vibrant reflectivity to the finish. A delightful specimen that is sure to sell for a strong bid.
