- Here is a bright, essentially brilliant, and conditionally rare near-Gem example of this popular Morgan dollar VAM variety. It is frosty and boldly struck throughout, impressively so for a New Orleans Mint issue. The 1882-O/S and 1900-O/CC are the only two overmintmark Morgan dollar varieties listed in the <em>Guide Book</em> that involve mintmarks from two different coinage facilities. The 1900-O/CC is more widely known, perhaps due to the greater popularity of Carson City Mint coins. It is the 1882-O/S, however, that is by far the more challenging to locate in high grades. In fact, this is one of the rarest Morgan dollar varieties in Gem Mint State, which fact confirms the significance of this premium PCGS/CAC MS-64+ example for astute bidders.
