- SWITZERLAND. Swiss Confederation Shooting Festival in Basel White Metal Medal, 1879 PCGS SPECIMEN-64. R-98c; Martin-62. By Edouard Durussel, Bern. 47mm. Obverse: Arms of Basel in the center, superimposed on crossed rifles and a mixed oak and laurel wreath, legend immediately above and date below; Arms of the (then) 22 Cantons of Switzerland around the perimeter; Reverse: Helvetia, seated, facing three-quarters right, young man with rifle at right, standing and facing left, pointing toward the city of Basel in the background; perimeter legend above, date in exergue below. Note this is essentially a re-used design from the festival three years prior in Lausanne (R-1562), modified for the Basel location. An attractive medal with frosty devices and reflective fields and minimal marks in the soft white metal. Comes with display box from before being certified. Estimate: $150 - $250.
