Stunning original toning in vivid antique gold, powder blue and champagne-pink with a desirable target-like distribution to the colors on both sides. Luster quality and surface preservation are no less impressive for this upper end Gem that is temptingly close to Superb quality. Struck on the West Coast on the very cusp of the United States' official entry into World War II, the 1941-S is the undisputed key date issue in the popular Walking Liberty half dollar "short set" of 1941 to 1947. It has a mintage of 8,098,000 pieces, and while not the smallest in the series, the nation's burgeoning wartime economy and the tumultuous events of the deadliest conflict in human history resulted in relatively few examples being spared circulation. Even so, enough were preserved to make the 1941-S readily obtainable in Mint State grades below MS-66+. At this level the issue is very scarce, and it is undeniably rare any finer. The present example is among the prettiest that we have offered in recent memory, a true prize for the advanced collector of this popular 20th century silver series.
