From the Premier Barber Collection. The present SUPERB GEM is clearly one of the FINEST graded examples of this low mintage proof date. AMAZING watery mirrors have a quicksilver look to them, dancing under wonderful and totally original iridescent teal, lilac, sea-green, olive, and rose toning. The eye appeal and technical qualities are all beyond what you would expect, even for a coin of this lofty grade! Even the most fastidious of collectors will fall in love with this uber-GEM! Only 543 were struck. PCGS 5, NGC 8, CAC 6. These figures likely include duplication. This coin is the only one we can trace having sold in auction since 2005. Sold for $17,250 in the February 2005 sale of the Bruce Scher Collection, it was purchased by the late, great collector Gene Gardner. More recently sold in the June 2014 Gene Gardner Collection sale, where it realized $9,988.
