- This top-of-the-census Superb Gem delivers outstanding quality and superior eye appeal in a late date Indian cent. Fiery mint orange color remains full and vivid on lustrous satin surfaces. Striking detail is crisp in virtually all areas, and the in-hand appearance is expectably pristine for the assigned grade.<p>Of the 96,020,530 cents that the Mint coined for circulation in 1906, 3,106,136 were struck on planchets made from metal obtained from redeemed uncurrent coinage. These included large cents, copper-nickel cents, earlier dated bronze cents, and two-cent pieces. The Mint purchased the balance of the planchets for this issue at 28 cents/pound. The 1906 has always been plentiful in lower Mint State grades, but near the pinnacle of the grading scale in the full Red category the offered coin is a phenomenal condition rarity worthy of inclusion in the finest collection.
