(t) CHINA. Fantasy Silver Hsiao Yao-nan 50th Birthday Medallic Dollar, "CD (1924)". NGC MS-61. cf. L&M-961 (for prototype medal); K-Unlisted; KMX-M725; cf. WS-0124 (same). Diameter: 38mm. Obverse: Bust facing slightly left, in military attire and wearing plumed shuko; Reverse: Longevity symbol. Edge: Plain. A VERY RAREsilver issue that channels the original medallic issue for the 50th birthday of the military governor and important figure in the early Republic, Hsiao Yao-nan (Xiao Yaonan), this piece also evokes the "tall hat" types of Yuan Shih-kai from the preceding decade. Most attractively toned, with a gunmetal gray-cabernet nature throughout, and some areas of deeper cobalt near portions of the peripheries. Estimate: $7,000 - $10,000.
