- 1788 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 7-M, W-6250. Rarity-4. Period After MASSACHUSETTS. VF-35 (PCGS). 158.8 grains. Hard and satiny surfaces exhibit a few intermingled streaks of golden-brown to dominant olive-copper patina. The strike is trivially off center to 7 o'clock on the obverse, 11 o'clock on the reverse, with only partial denticulation around both sides. All design elements are bold, nonetheless, and many retain considerable sharpness in the recessed areas. Minor handling marks are easily forgiven, as is a faint carbon spot in the lower left obverse field, both the quality and eye appeal solid for the assigned grade. This die pairing is seldom offered above the Extremely Fine grade level, and this Choice VF would certainly do well in many cabinets of Massachusetts copper coinage. Provenance: From the Norman G.
