Not only does the 1913 St. Gaudens have a low mintage of only 168,780, and it remains as one of the most conditionally challenging dates in the series in GEM grade. Above the currently offered MS64+ grade, these become prohibitively RARE for most collectors. Indeed, after 36+ years of operations, PCGS and NGC combined have graded just over three dozen coins in GEM grade total, no doubt including some duplication from crossover and regrade submissions. The present MS64+ is as close to GEM as you an hope to get, and were it not for a tiny graze in the right obverse field and a couple of ticks on Ms. Liberty, this coin might have graded MS65. An abundantly rich orange-gold tone envelopes this exceptionally eye appealing example. The devices show pinpoint precision definition to the details, imparted from a strong and exacting blow from the dies. What a great coin for the collector! PCGS 417, NGC 181, CAC 39. PCGS has graded 42 in MS64+ and just 18 finer. We believe there is a lot of duplication in those grading events, as the same coin gets resubmitted in hopes of a higher grade. The most recent example to sell in auction realized $18,000 in the 2022 ANA auction. Keep in mind that the last PCGS MS65 CAC sold for $102,000 in May 2022. This highly attractive example is worthy of a very strong bid and placement in a GEM Saint collection. Good luck. Cert. Number 34615807 PCGS # 9161
