- Lot 315 1852 N-1 R1 Repunched 18 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved.Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with more than a third of the mellowed mint red remaining visible on both sides. A very attractive cent that would rate a gem grade except for a few small toning spots (not carbon) on both sides. The only notable spots are an obvious one on the center of the cheek and a less obvious one at the bottom of the R in AMERICA. MDS, die state b. The repunching below the 1 is dull but visible; the repunching on the 8 is gone. There are die cracks on the obverse but the crack from star 1 to the nose has not formed. Our grade is MS63,tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer in 65.
