- FROM THE TOMMY JOHN COLLECTION A nearly-Choice Mint State example of this first year of the Standing Liberty series. One of the most beautiful designs of the entire U.S. series, production began in December 1916, and only 52,000 were struck. Hermon MacNeill's standing representation of Liberty holding a shield and olive branch, stepping through what looks like a boat's gangway portrays America stepping out on to the world stage and its readiness in times of war and peace. The devices are sharply impressed from a bold blow from the dies. A soft, satiny glow radiates warmly from below a delicate dusting of the clearest gold tone. A few ancient traces of contact can be detected with a strong glass, which has little impact on the visual allure. PCGS 24, NGC 33. The most recent NGC-graded MS62 FH sold for $11,100 in February 2019 and prior to that, they were selling between $12,000 and $13,000. The current Collectors Universe value is $16,000. Good luck, demand far outstrips demand for this classic 20th century rarity. Cert. Number 1870804-005 PCGS # 5705.00
