- OOZING ORIGINALITY in the form of lilac, macaroon gold and soft rose toning over intensely lustrous surfaces. This color occurred because of the type of paper and or cardboard that the coins were stored within. Sharply struck. Under strong magnification, there is noted a faint contact dribble line on Captain Cook's neck.
Struck to commemorative the 150th anniversary of the Hawaiian Islands, the coin was issued for $2 each, and was, at the time, the highest initial sale price of a commemorative half dollar.
PCGS 576, NGC 372, CAC 135. An example sold in March 2023 for $4,320 and prior to that one sold in January 2023 for $4,800. PCGS Price Guide value is $4,700. An eye-appealing example such as this coin with pretty light color and not the normally encountered dark, splotchy toning, is certainly worthy of a premium bid, in our opinion. We think you will agree.
