- UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Admiral Vernon/Battle of Porto Bello Bath Metal Medal, 1739. PCGS AU-50. Adams/Chao-PBv-26-V (R-5); M/G-50. Diameter: 37.5mm. On the capture of Porto Bello (in what is now Panama) between Spain and Great Britain. Obverse: three-quarters portrait of Admiral Vernon facing left, holding cane; Reverse: six ships approaching Porto Bello. This impressive medal features a proud image of Vernon and a boldly-struck reverse scene with elaborate detail. The surfaces are toned to a rich umber and preserve some luster in the fields.
