- 1720-A French Colonies Sol, or 12 Deniers. Paris Mint. MS-63 BN (PCGS). This John Law issue is attributed to a time when the French mints were under control of the Compagnie des Indes and struck coins for the profit of the company. The company possessed the coinage right from July 25, 1719 to January 5, 1721, and many of the coins struck during that period (especially the copper pieces, as here) probably found their way to the French colonies in the New World. A mostly medium-brown example, both sides do reveal traces of faded orange color here and there at the borders. Suitably bold in strike for the type, with minor spotting to preclude an even higher grade.
