- Although the <em>Guide Book</em> provides a mintage of 102,000 pieces for this issue, the actual total is 106,000 if the 4,000 coins delivered on December 29, 1827 were from 1828-dated dies, as some numismatic researchers believe. In either case, the 1828 quarter is a low mintage affair when viewed in the wider context of U.S. numismatics. With more than 3 million coins struck the same year, it is obvious that the half dollar remained the denomination of choice among contemporary bullion depositors. This handsome EF quarter, from the frequently encountered Browning-1 die pairing, is richly toned over nicely composed surfaces. A candidate for CAC approval.
