What a great example from the final year of the Draped Bust quarter! PCGS has graded this super slider as an AU58, but it truly is on the cusp of a full Mint State grade, and was described in 1997 as Brilliant Uncirculated. Truly this is a GEM quality AU that has a SUPERB visual appeal for the grade. We have seen Mint State coins with less luster, less life, and more flatness of the devices. Softly glowing, deep, frosty luster accents the very attractive clear red-gold patina on both sides of this wonderful B-1. Hints of varied antique silver-gray hues can be seen as the luster rolls off the minimally worn surfaces. Well struck from clashed dies, the definition is generally complete throughout. The eye appeal is amazing! Ex Empire State Collection, Stack's, January 1997, lot 533; Eugene Gardner Collection, Part IV, Heritage, October 2015, lot 98392; PUG Collection, Legend Rare Coin Auctions' Regency Auction 32, May 2019, lot 385. PCGS 16, NGC 8, CAC 4. This coin is the most recent to appear in auction and brought $14,100 in May 2019. Prior to that, this coin brought $11,500 in the Gardner sale. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $10,000 and we anticipate this GEM AU piece will sell for more. A great "everyman" grade example for the serious collector, and ANY Mint State piece is indeed a major condition rarity. G Cert. Number 10008118 PCGS # 5316
