- THE TERRA PISTACIA COLLECTION Ex Eliasberg Collection A very interesting and mysterious transitional pattern Indian cent. The mint was clearly interested in various alloys and striking methods for the cent during the Civil War. J-300 is a High Rarity-6 pattern featuring regular issue dies struck on in copper-nickel with a reeded edge. Also this variety was struck as a business strike, rather than a Proof; perhaps half a dozen examples in Mint State, rather than Proof format Rich, golden brown patina graces both sides of this essentially GEM piece. Light iridescence can be seen when rotated in a light. The devices are sharply struck and the surfaces have a warm underlying luster. The eye appeal is excellent. Ex Louis E. Eliasberg Collection, Bowers & Merena, May 1996, lot 138. PCGS 8, NGC 1, CAC 3. The most recent PCGS MS64 sold for $2,880 in May 2022. The current CAC CPG value is $4,000 and the Collectors Universe value is listed at $3,500. Just a single MS65 is graded higher, and has not sold in auction. An enigmatic issue that invites more research, taking up on the questions posed in the Eliasberg description. Cert. Number 4491617 PCGS # 70455
