- All Draped Bust quarters are scarce to rare, especially in About Uncirculated and Mint State grades. The mintage for calendar year 1805 is 121,394 pieces, examples of this date having been produced from four obverse and four reverse dies in five marriages. Browning-3 rivals B-2 as the most available variety of the issue, although most survivors are well worn. With only a handful of Mint State coins extant, the present Choice AU example represents an important bidding opportunity for the astute type or date collector. Both sides are richly toned with antique gold undertones backlighting dominant steel-olive and lilac-blue patina. Boldly defined overall with a pleasingly smooth appearance during in hand viewing. Die State b, early, with only a faint trace of the crack from the back of Liberty's hair, below the lower ribbon, through star 4, to the border.
