- Much frosty luster remains on both sides of this bright, flashy, and largely untoned example. There is some light toning, nonetheless, and it takes the form of reddish-gold iridescence in isolated peripheral areas. Concentrations of adjustment marks along the upper left reverse border and at the eagle's head are as made, the former also explains the softness of detail to stars 1 through 4 on the obverse. Boldly defined otherwise, with significantly sharper definition remaining in the recesses of the design elements. Pleasing for the grade with no serious handling marks. BB Die State VI, Salyards Die State k.<p>The Bowers-Borckardt 65 attribution corresponds to the Large Date, Small Letters <em>Guide Book</em> variety of the 1796 dollar. After BB-61, this is the most frequently encountered die marriage of the issue in today's market, making it popular with type collectors seeking an example of the challenging Draped Bust, Small Eagle design.
