- While over 11 million silver dollars fell from the presses in the Philadelphia mint in 1882, the vast majority of this date was likely kept in storage in Treasury Department vaults as backing for silver certificates. Later, under the auspices of the 1918 Pittman Act, some 350 million silver dollars stored in those vaults were consigned to the smelting rooms and converted into bullion. This is an extremely rare date in so fine a grade, indeed any grade above MS66 is considered RARE. The presently offered MS67 is well deserving of the lofty grade assigned by PCGS and its CAC seal of approval. As beautiful, fresh, and PRISTINE as the day it came off the dies. The surfaces are virtually without flaw. Even with the aid of a strong glass there are no marks of consequence anywhere worthy of mention. A strong frosty mint brilliance glows on both sides. Cartwheels swirl boldly across the untoned silver surfaces. The devices are keenly struck up from a forceful blow from the dies. The eye appeal is excellent, totally worthy of placement in this world class collection. PCGS 22, NGC 10, CAC 7. Only two CAC-approved examples have sold in auction; the most recent in May 2022 for $19,800 and the other in our May 2018 sale of the PFM Collection, which brought $28,200! The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $20,000. While PCGS has graded two in MS67+ finer, only the Jack Lee-Coronet Coin has ever sold in auction, which brought $32,900 in our June 2015 Regency Auction. This is a real prize for the collector and worthy of a very strong bid indeed! Good luck. Cert. Number 36762344 PCGS # 7132
