- Another Pleasing White Metal Urn Circa 1800 Washington Funeral Medal. Funeral Urn. Musante GW-70, Baker-166C. Dies 1-B. White Metal. AU-50 (PCGS). 29.2 mm. 131.0 grains. Pierced for suspension at 12 o'clock. Some shimmering brilliance gently outlines the motifs on both sides, while most of the more exposed surface area has mellowed to soft pewter gray. A trace of residue on Washington's portrait is noted for accuracy but seems harmless. Slightly more handled than the medal offered in the last lot, but still very nice for one of these in this composition. Just a few scattered marks are noted, but the eye appeal is quite excellent. Though there are some hairlines, there is not a trace of pesting to be found. Struck from the same dies as used for the gold medal in this sale, as well as one of the silver impressions. This is from a later die state, but the large reverse crack seems slightly less advanced than on the gold medal. Provenance: From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.
